The creation of idea
Having selected my desired production which was ‘Teaser Trailer’ I set out to research more about this production and what techniques they use when constructing the media text.
I then paired up with my partner, Michelle, and we discussed on the genre that we thought would be most suitable for us. At first we both had different feelings towards each other choice of genre. She suggested -Sci-Fi, whilst I suggested ‘Horror’ or ‘Thriller (crime)’
After much thought and analyse by both of us, we underlined, the advantages and disadvantages of each genre.
Using the internet, and the popular software, wikipedia, we read into the different types of genre.
Crime, we noticed seemed to be the most popular amongst students. It was becoming a cliché to produce a crime-themed film trailer. However resources and locations were easy to come across, locations such as a forest- which can create an eerie suspense atmosphere, as the audience doesn’t know what lurks behind the trees and bushes.

The urban city is much known for its high rate in crime and its over-populated boroughs. The media attention in crime is usually focuses in the area where there is high rate in unemployment, pregnancy and crime.
Horror teaser trailer creates a sense of fear, suspense and a dark atmosphere for its audience. It’s expected to scare the audience and drive them towards their fear. We researched into different theories of horror films. We found that Mary Douglas spoke about purity and danger; people have the tendency to categorize what is safe/ pure or what is impure/ dangerous. The horror text categorise with human/inhuman; good/evil; alive/dead etc…
Sci-Fi (Science Fiction) is a supernatural, non-earthly genre. With our available resources I argued that this genre would be harder for us to accomplish, however it has rarely been constructed. It is an interesting genre, in terms of the storyline, use of SFX and props. The disadvantage is clear that it would be a hard genre, since we are not professionals but amateurs.
After much needed discussion we agreed to plan and construct a ‘Crime’ text. We concluded that with this genre there was more storylines (plots), resources and past productions of this genre that could help us; produce an outstanding teaser trailer.
Using a camera and available locations we decided to plan, plan our plots for the genre and then compare notes.
